Biography

Sawaka Kawasaki is a Japanese-born pianist. She began studying piano at the age of 6 with Naohito Fukaya and later received lessons from Claudio Soares, Yuki Higami, and Yasuko Tasumi. From 2012, she studied concert piano at the Osaka University of Music with Tomoko Sueoka and Izumi Komoriya, where she graduated with honors. During her studies, she was selected as a soloist and performed Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 3 with the Osaka Opera House Orchestra. She was also selected as an Aoyama Foundation Scholar in 2015 and has received various merit scholarships from the Osaka University of Music.
Since 2016, she has studied piano performance with Prof. Stefan Arnold at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. In 2017, she won third prize at the Transylvanian International Piano Competition and received a cash prize from the Anny Felbermayer Foundation in 2018. She has performed at the university as well as in Vienna and Germany. In 2023, she presented the complete "6 Preludes and Fugues, Op. 35" by Mendelssohn as part of the "Young International Master Pianists" concert series at the Bank Austria Salon. In Japan, she gave solo recitals in Osaka. She completed both her bachelor's and master's degrees in piano performance with distinction and continued her studies in the postgraduate program at the same university.
She is currently studying chamber music with Prof. Stefan Mendl. She founded the duo "Lumisai" with Austrian cellist Marlene Förstel, and they perform actively throughout Austria.
In addition to her work as a pianist, she is also active as a dedicated piano teacher and accompanist.
